Danderyd Municipality
Danderyd Municipality brings together healthcare, research and business to strengthen Stockholm’s life science ecosystem through collaboration, innovation and clinical development.
Danderyd municipality is an active partner in Capital of Life thanks to its strategic position in the Stockholm-Uppsala region and as the location of Danderyd Hospital, the municipality’s largest employer, and one of Sweden’s front-line healthcare and research environments.
The municipality’s role in this collaboration is to facilitate the growth of the hospital and its surrounding industry, and to contribute towards making the region an even more competitive and internationally attractive life science cluster. Home to approximately 6,300 companies, many of them in research, technology, law, finance and a growing health and medtech sector, Danderyd is one of Sweden’s most business-dense municipalities and a natural node for knowledge-intensive activities.
The municipality works with life science by creating powerful arenas for collaboration between companies, research and the public sector. Our networking events, business breakfasts, training sessions and thematic forums build relationships that foster innovation and development in the sector.
Danderyd also encourages new solutions and investment thanks to initiatives such as local dragons’ dens, hackathons and investment hubs. Working with Stockholm Business Alliance, we bolster the municipality’s international attractiveness and create a good start-up climate for companies in medtech, digital health and clinical innovation. The strategic collaboration with Danderyd Hospital opens up opportunities for testbeds, pilots and partnerships between healthcare, academia and industry, further reinforcing the region’s position as a leading environment for the health of the future.
Danderyd Hospital is a focal point of and the impetus behind Danderyd Science Park, a node in the life science cluster Capital of Life. Danderyd Hospital provides established clinical research environments, known as testbeds, where healthcare staff, researchers and companies can work together under quality-assured conditions.
The purpose of Danderyd Science Park is to increase the number of clinical studies in pharmaceuticals and medtech. This will see more patients given the opportunity to participate in clinical trials, with new treatment methods, products and working practices developed and evaluated close to the point of care. Sights are set on better prevention, new treatments and improved health.
Danderyd Hospital offers opportunities for life science actors by virtue of its high volumes of patients, patient-oriented clinical research in partnership with Karolinska Institutet, preventive healthcare and its partnerships with primary care. The hospital’s work on artificial intelligence and digitalisation is also important for developments in the field.
The research is conducted at Karolinska Institutet’s Department of Clinical Sciences, Danderyd Hospital (KI DS), and revolves around clinical studies to develop new treatments in public health, increased use of health data, digital tools, diagnostic imaging and artificial intelligence. There is also a focus on developing innovative research closely linked to healthcare.
