Södertälje Municipality

Södertälje plays a central role in Capital of Life as an industrial centre for the production and development of pharmaceuticals. The presence of global actors such as AstraZeneca makes Södertälje one of the region’s most important nodes for securing large-scale manufacturing, quality and the global distribution of pharmaceuticals.

Södertälje’s work with life science is characterised by close collaboration between industry, academia and the public sector, with a focus on production, innovation and skills provision. One important platform is Södertälje Science Park, where actors from different sectors work together to develop sustainable and advanced production methods, strengthen innovation capacity in industrial life science, and link together research and practical application.

Industry, headed by AstraZeneca, is driving major investment in biologics and the manufacturing processes of the future, for example. At the same time, the municipality is working actively to create attractive environments for launching new companies, supporting the development of small and medium-sized life science businesses, and contributing towards skills provision through collaboration with education providers.
