Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) advances life science through One Health research that connects human, animal and environmental health to address future global health challenges.
SLU is a central actor in the Stockholm-Uppsala life science cluster due to our broad competence in One Health – the interaction between animals, people and ecosystems. We contribute research, education and infrastructure in veterinary medicine, animal health, zoonoses, antimicrobial resistance and food systems, which supplement the strong human medicine profile in the region.
An important part of our contribution is comparative medicine, where diseases and treatment strategies are studied across species to gain new knowledge that benefits both animal and human health. In SLU Future One Health and our research environments, we link up animal and public health with environmental and climate impact and create knowledge that is crucial to preventing and tackling future health threats.
SLU’s activities run from molecular and clinical studies to population-level studies, monitoring and policy development, which means we are able to contribute both cutting-edge expertise and systems perspectives.
Together with other actors in the cluster, we develop new solutions for safe and sustainable food, improved animal welfare, effective infection prevention and control, and more resilient societies. In this way, SLU strengthens the position of the Stockholm-Uppsala region as an internationally leading centre for life science that not only focuses on healthcare and treatment, but also on the underlying environmental and social factors that shape health over time.
